20 Jun UGPN Welcomes Professor Amelia Hadfield as the New Chair, Marking a New Era of Global Collaboration
The University Global Partnership Network (UGPN) has entered a new chapter with the appointment of Professor Amelia Hadfield as the incoming UGPN Chair. The announcement was made during the UGPN’s first in-person conference since 2019, held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in May 2023, marking a significant milestone for the organization.
With a wealth of experience in international cooperation and a strong dedication to fostering global partnerships, Professor Hadfield is poised to lead the UGPN into a future of continued growth and collaboration. As the Dean International of the University of Surrey, UK, Professor Hadfield has a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in higher education on a global scale.
Under her leadership, the UGPN is set to embark on a range of new initiatives aimed aimed deepening the degree of interconnection between the UGPN partners, to enhance the quality of their internal research interactions and ability to respond proactively to external research funding opportunities, as well as supporting the development goals of the new UGPN Academy and exploring opportunities for new UGPN partners. Professor Hadfield’s vision for the UGPN is grounded in Surrey’s own determination as a global university to help solve global challenges with relevant research, ensuring that the UGPN itself can act as a catalyst for positive social change.
In her inaugural address as the UGPN Chair, Professor Hadfield expressed her enthusiasm for the position, stating, “I am honoured to take on this role and contribute to the advancement of international collaboration among our esteemed member institutions. Together, we have the power to create lasting change and make a meaningful difference in addressing global issues.”
The UGPN, consisting of the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), the University of Surrey (UK), and North Carolina State University (USA), has been at the forefront of promoting cross-border partnerships, knowledge exchange, and joint research projects.
